History
"We should say that this is a historical moment: a social democratic party has become a parliamentary party for the first time in the contemporary history of Russia. Even though our party is new, it got almost as many votes as the 'parliamentary elders', i.e. the Communist party and the Liberal Democratic party"
From Sergei Mironov's briefing on December 3, 2007.
As of 2007, the political party Just Russia is the first parliamentary social democratic party in the contemporary history of Russia, and as of 2008, the first Russian party to become a member of International social democratic NGO "Socialist International".
The party was created on October 28, 2006 as a result of merger of the parties "Motherland", "Russian party of the retired people" and "Russian party of LIFE". In four and a half years of its activity, Just Russia united the representatives of 9 political parties and movements. Sergei Mironov is the leader of the political party Just Russia.
Nowadays over four hundred thousand people have JUST RUSSIA membership. 1759 deputies of municipal and urban districts, 2668 deputies of rural and urban settlements and 132 deputies of intra-city municipal units work for the good of their electorate.
Deputy groups of Just Russia work in the legislative assemblies of 62 subjects of the Russian Federation.
Currently the parliamentary group of Just Russia in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is the smallest of all, consisting of only 38 deputies. Sergei Mironov, leader of the political party Just Russia, is also the head of the party's parliamentary group.
The main goal of Just Russia for the upcoming parliamentary election to the 6th State Duma on December 4, 2011, is to increase the number of its members in the State Duma, thus ending a single-party majority in the State Duma and providing for better efficiency of legislative activities.
