Official visit to Germany

May, 6. Today Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has visited Germany with an official one-day visit.

In the morning Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has met the leader of Social Democratic Party of Germany fraction in Bundestag of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the framework of his official visit to Germany.
During the meeting the parties have discussed interparliamentary connections development, cooperation prospects for social democratic parties of the two countries and new trends in global social democratic movement.
Sergei Mironov and Frank-Walter Steinmeier both noted that the relationship between Russia and Germany is developing rather actively. “We hope that the important events commemorating 65th anniversary of WWII in Germany shall be held under the auspices and with active participation of political figures of Germany”, - Sergei Mironov said.

Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has visited the central office of Social Democratic Party of Germany – the house of Willy Brandt, where he met Chairman of Social Democratic Party of Germany Sigmar Gabriel. The parties have discussed various aspects of Russia-Germany cooperation and issues of social protection of people during economic crisis.
“We highly appreciate the efforts of German authorities and society in preserving and protecting soviet war monuments and memorials”, - Sergei Mironov said.

Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has participated in wreath laying ceremony near Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park in Berlin in the framework of his official visit to Germany.
In the park Sergei Mironov has met WWII veterans, congratulated them on the upcoming anniversary and gave them his best wishes. “The upcoming Victory anniversary is a holiday uniting people and nations”, - Sergei Mironov said.

After the official meetings Sergei Mironov visited Friedrich Ebert Foundation, where he gave an interview to Russian and German mass media.

Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has participated in the conference “From capitulation to cooperation: Germany, Russia and Europe 65 years after WWII” in the framework of his official visit to Germany.
Former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder made a speech on ‘Russia and Europe 65 years after the war: cooperation prospects’ during the conference.

In the end of his visit Sergei Mironov has met president of Bundesrat of Germany Jens Böhrnsen.
