Sergey M. Mironov was born on February 14, 1953 in the town of Pushkin, not far from Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
1980 Sergey Mironov graduated from Leningrad Mining Institute named after G.V.PLEKHANOV, 1992 - from St. Petersburg State Technical University, 1997 - with honors from Academy of the State Service at the President of the Russian Federation, 1998 - with honors St. Petersburg State University. He has high technical, economic, and legal education, also in the sphere of state and municipal government. He has submitted his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Juridical Sciences.
In 1971 - 1973 served in airborne troops in the Soviet Army. Senior sergeant of reserve airborne troops.
From 1978 to 1986 Sergey Mironov worked as an engineer-geophysicist in the "Rudgeofizika" science and production association, then as a geophysicist in Zelenogorsky research brigade under the Ministry of Geology of the USSR. After that he was sent to Mongolia by the Ministry of Geology of the USSR to work as Senior geophysicist of an aerial survey team.
In 1993 Mironov was certified by the Ministry of Finance of Russia to work at the securities' market. From 1994 to 1995 he was the executive director at the "Renaissance of St. Petersburg" construction corporation.
In 1994 Sergey Mironov was elected deputy of the St. Petersburg's Legislative Assembly of the first convocation; starting from April 1995 - the first Deputy-chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly. From April to December 1998 - acting Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly of the first convocation.
In 1998 Sergey Mironov again took part in the elections and was elected deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly of the second convocation (Constituency 12) receiving 70% votes. Coordinator of the "Zakonnost" ("Legality") faction. June, 2000 was elected vice-Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly of the second convocation. From September 2000 - chairman of the council of the St. Petersburg political-public movement "Will of St. Petersburg.
June 13, 2001 was elected a member of the Council of Federation of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation as a representative of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly at the Council of Federation of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
From June 2001 - a member of the Committee on Regulations and Parliamentary Procedures of the Council of Federation; from October 2001 - deputy-Chairman of the Committee for Constitutional Legislation and Judicial Issues of the Council of Federation.
On December 5 2001 Mironov was elected Chairman of The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
January 15, 2003 was re-elected as a representative of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly at the Council of Federation of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
On January 29, 2003 Sergey Mironov was re-elected Chairman of The Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly.
From February 2003 Sergey Mironov also has been the Chairman of the Council of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of States - members of the CIS and from April 2003 - Chairman of the Russian Party of Life.
Three times (in 2003, 2003 and 2005) awarded a firearm with personal dedication.
In 2003 Sergei Mironov was awarded a medal commemorating St.Petersburg's 300 anniversary, in 2005 - a medal commemorating Kazan's 100th anniversary.
In 2008 President Vladmir Putin awarded Sergei Mironov the Order of Service to Fatherland, 3rd degree.
In 2011 Sergei Mironov has left his post of the Chairman of the political party Russia of Justice and became Chairman of the Council of the House of "Russia of Justice" Party Deputies.
On May 18, 2011 Sergei Mironov was called of from his post at the Federation Council on the initiative of United Russia political party during the plenary session of St. Petersburg legislative assembly. Right before this happened he made a very remarkable and a rather piercing public political speech. Currently he is preparing to begin his work as a Russia of Justice deputy at the State Duma.
On June 8, 2011 Central Electoral Committee of the Russian Federationhanded the vacant deputy mandate of the 5th State Duma to Sergei Mironov.
On June, 14, 2011 during the session of the parliamentary group of Just Russia, by the majority vote Sergei Mironov has been elected the head of the parliamentary group of Just Russia in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of theRussian Federation.
On December 4, 2011, as the result of State Duma elections, political party Just Russia got 13,24% (8 695 522) of the votes, thus considerably improving its results as compared to 2007 Duma elections, and gaining the largest increase in popular support as compared to other parties that made their way to the 6th State Duma. JustRussia became the third largest party in the State Duma, outrunning the LDPR with 64 deputy mandates.
On December 10, 2011, during the meeting session of the political party Just Russia, Sergei Mironov has been elected as the party's prime candidate for the post of President of the Russian Federation.
On December 12, 2011 Sergei Mironov has been elected the head of the parliamentary group of Russia of Justice in the 6th State Duma of the Federal Assembly of theRussian Federation.
On December 26, 2011 Sergei Mironov has been registered as the candidate for the post of President of theRussian Federationby the Central Electoral Committee.
Sergey Mironov is married. He has a son and a daughter.
