On Russia's economic development
- From the point of view of intellectual activity and development, the US has got Russia hooked. The first 'thorn' was the Windows computer operating system, which the country's intellectual work depends on. The second 'thorn' are the Intel microprocessors, which are included in the computers. Finally, the third 'thorn' was 'notorious Hollywood.' 'Russia can only respond with its gas pipelines, which several governments depend on, but oil is a finite and diminishing resource. However, Russia does have the renewable and eternal resource of its people's intelligence, which we need to actively develop. I think that reorienting the economy from the mining of raw materials to manufacturing - and we are talking above all about science-intensive technologies, production that uses scientific achievements should be the Government's top priority on the way of doubling GDP. Moreover, it is my deep conviction that this move is long overdue because we will not be able to double the GDP just by increasing oil production of which there isn't all that much.
