On AIDS

- I readily accept the position of Co-Chairman of Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS, because I understand the scope of the HIV/AIDS problem which Russia will have to face in the near future. We must join forces on both sides of the Atlantic to use best international practices to raise awareness and a sense of responsibility among Russians to themselves and others. We must work to improve the quality of treatment and care. And, we cannot forget about the rights of those who are already infected. All this is crucial for Russia's future.

Russian Federation Council Chairman Sergey Mironov elected co-chairman of Russian-American HIV/AIDS organization//TPAA Press Release. - 03.11.2003

- The Russian public is not sufficiently aware of the danger AIDS poses. In Russia there is a great need for information and awareness about HIV and AIDS and the difference between the two. ... There is also the moral question of discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS. We must educate our population and make them aware that these people present no threat to those around them, or to society as a whole.
