February, 17. Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has met creative group “Angels of Hope”. This group was founded in 2002 by E. Orlova, a teacher from deaf education department of Moscow State Pedagogical University. The main objective of the group is to develop creativity among hearing impaired children, to open cultural values for them and to help them merge with the society. “The things “Angels of Hope” do are very important, and not only for the members of the group, but for everyone they work with. It’s not a secret that many people are afraid of disabled, and this fear sometimes hurts the disabled more than physical pain. “Angels” do everything to destroy that fear and to help overcome misunderstanding and indifference”, - Sergei Mironov said.

February, 18. Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has visited home and museum of Anton Chekhov. There he laid flowers to the monument of Chekhov and had a tour of the house. Sergei Mironov, who is a chairman of the board of editors of “Our Legacy” magazine, presented the museum with a full collection of several newspapers of the time that were issued between July 3 and July 14 1904, right after the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov had died.

Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has met veterans of WWII, members of the last war call-up from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow region, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov and Ufa. After the meeting Sergei Mironov said to the reporters: “Here are the veterans, the people who were called up to join the army in autumn of 1944. They were only sixteen or seventeen at that time. Many of them fought in Belorussia and Ukraine, tracing traitors and the remains of fascist troops, clearing minefields on previously occupied territories. When the war was over, they had to continue their military service for 7 or 8 years, because the army lacked people. And here they are, 65 years since the victory, and I sincerely hope we shall meet again in 5 years”.
