Official visit to Abkhazia

February, 12. Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov has visited the republic of Abkhazia in the framework of his official visit. 

Sergei Mironov has arrived in Sukhumi in order to take part in the inauguration ceremony for the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.  

Upon arrival Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov and elected president of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh laid a wreath to the monument of Glory. Then they had a bilateral meeting, in the course of which they have discussed prospects for cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia and ways to settle relevant problems the republic is facing now. 

Sergei Mironov noted that contacts between Russian and Abkhazian businesses are rapidly growing, and Moscow and Abkhazia signed a document in order to create cultural and business centers. “Russia will help to solve all the problems Abkhazia currently faces. And the most important here is to bring life in Abkhazia back to normal living standards. People here have lived in worries and danger far too long; way too much blood was shed, and we have to do everything we can in order to let the citizen of Abkhazia live peaceful and decent lives on their land”, - Sergei Mironov said.

Then Sergei Mironov has met his colleague, chairman of the National Assembly (Abkhazian Parliament) Nuzgar Ashuba. They have discussed interparliamentary connections and ways for further parliamentary cooperation.

Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov took part in the inauguration ceremony for the President of the Republic of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh. During the ceremony Sergei Mironov has read the address from Russian president Dmitri Medvedev.
