The final meeting of Climate Change Seminar of SWS Commission held in St. Petersburg
July 15. The final meeting of the Seminar of Socialist International Commission for a Sustainable World Society was held on July 15. In the draft of the resulting document the members of the seminar accentuated the need of consolidated effort of all states, political parties, and public organizations in solving the problem of climate change, adoption in different economic sectors of the new ecological technologies using renewable energy sources such as sun or wind energy, geothermal energy.
The participants expressed their satisfaction with the positive changes featuring the present position of the world community to the ecological problems. The questions of the environmental protection are permanently attended by U.N.O., they were discussed in detail at the latest G8 summit in Japan. In its documents the Commission expressed the hope that the global agreement on environmental protection would be signed in 2009at the latest.
Speaking at the resulting press-conference Sergei Mironov stated that the proposals of the Socialist International Commission could form the base for the concerted international attitude towards the questions of sustainable development of the human civilization. The heads of the Commission emphasized the efficiency of the dialog in St. Petersburg as well as the increasing role of Russia in solving the global ecological problems.
